MEMORIES DEEP IN THE SOUL
PARTING IS NOT THE END, FORGETTING IS

PUDDING’S LOVE
Under the cold fluorescent lights of the pet funeral home, I clutched the small blue cloth bag tightly. Inside lay the ashes of my golden retriever, Pudding, who had been by my side for twelve precious years. As my fingers traced the worn leash, memories of him wagging his tail and bounding through the sunset flashed before my eyes, blurring my vision with tears.
When Pudding first came home, he was just a fluffy ball of fur. During my late-night work sessions, he would nuzzle his cold nose into my palm. On days when I felt down, he’d quietly lie at my feet, his warm body offering wordless comfort. Together, we’d walked through countless dawns and dusks, and his paw prints seemed to be etched into every corner of my life.
The day I brought his ashes home, staring at his empty dog bed, I couldn’t bear the thought of those beautiful memories only existing in photos and my mind. That’s when I decided to delve into the art of crafting jewelry with pet ashes. As I carefully mixed his ashes into the resin, it felt like I was gently stroking his soft fur again. With each diamond I set, every movement was filled with longing, hoping to make our love as eternal as the precious stones.
When the first paw-print pendant, infused with Pudding’s ashes, was finally completed, sunlight danced upon it. The tiny particles of ash shimmered within the transparent resin, resembling twinkling stars in the night sky. In that moment, I knew I’d found a way to keep him “by my side” forever.
Later, I opened a studio specializing in pet memorial jewelry. A young girl brought her cat’s ashes, wishing for a bracelet. An elderly man came with his schnauzer’s fur, hoping to combine it with the ashes for a brooch. I listened intently to each customer’s story, pouring their love and yearning into every piece I created.
Watching customers wear these meaningful jewels, their faces lit up with relieved and tender smiles, I became even more certain: these small pieces of jewelry are not just mementos of lost pets, but emotional bonds that bridge the gap between life and death. And through these creations, Pudding’s love continues to warm the hearts of many.
